A Growing Demand
In the last four decades, the number of Special Education students in America has grown astronomically. Because of such rapid expansion, policies and procedures concerning this group of individuals and their interactions with educators in the public school system were set in place by the government, in association with the Department of Education. Today, all Special Education teachers are expected to conform to a rigid set of laws governing the treatment and education of students who are defined as "exceptional." (Gargiulo 43-44)
